Darude – Sandstorm is an iconic part of YouTube history. It features an instrumental music track with a chase scene. Uploaded on 5th July 2009, it’s currently amassed over 287 million views. It isn’t quite clear how it became so popular, but back in the early days of YT, it became a running joke. For example, when people liked the music on a video and asked what it was, people would troll them by directing them to Darude – Sandstorm. If the track was used elsewhere, you’d get comments like, “Please rise for the YouTube national anthem.”
