The greatest risks facing the world

In a few days the World Economic Forum will publish its annual Global Risks Report, outlining the dangers collective humanity faces. Last year, misinformation, extreme weather events, societal polarization, cyber insecurity and interstate armed conflict topped the list. 

The WEF is unlikely to publish this in 2025, but there was a less understood risk that surfaced in 2024, and it’s the greatest risk we now face as humanity – the global elites manufacturing consent for a live-streamed genocide.

In 2024, the world was horrified and outraged by Israel’s genocide of the Palestinians in Gaza. We saw how mainstream media covered and downplayed Israel’s crimes against humanity, despite Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Save the Children, the International Court of Justice, the International Criminal Court, the United Nations etc. outlining in graphic detail the horrific reality. It was a major mask off moment, where any illusion that we lived in a world governed by equality and human rights was shattered. The ‘rules-based order’ was a total joke.

Politicians applied one rule for some, impunity for others. The extent to which our politicians were bought and paid-for was made apparent. Millions and millions of dollars were spent bribing politicians to toe the line. Democracy was shown to be a myth. It wasn’t public opinion that determined policy, it was how much money organisations like AIPAC and the military-industrial complex could donate. 

Those who opposed Israel’s mass murder were silenced, intimidated and threatened. It’s impossible to ignore this risk. Listen to this and try to process it. People protesting the mass murder of children were threatened with arrests, expulsions and firings from their jobs. 

Global elites knew that tens of thousands of people were being slaughtered. The number is likely to be much higher. But rather than call for action to stop it, they pursued their own interests to hoard more money and power. They wanted global indifference to a live-streamed genocide.

The genocide continues. This is the greatest risk the world faces today. If it’s the Palestinians now. It could be you next.

It has to be resisted at every single turn.
