Windows 3.11, the Microsoft OS from back in the early 1990s. It was pretty cool drawing up basic images from Microsoft Paint and playing Minesweeper. Every now and then, you’d get a lucky combination and complete the game in about 3 seconds, making it to the top of the leader board. Desktops were large bulky machines with monitors that took up a ton of space, and it could take quite a while to set up Windows, going through each disk to complete installation.
3.11 was the last time Microsoft shipped a major OS exclusively via floppy disks. The next version, Windows 95, was distributed by CD-ROM. Within a few years, the floppy disk would be regarded as tech from ancient history.Â
